Wilson has captured my attention with a book that will stay with me for days. Brishen Khaskem, prince of the Kai, has lived content as the nonessential spare heir to a throne secured many times over. A solid plan, really, but here is my problem; why doesn't it occur to ANYONE that maybe, just maybe, the love for and of his WIFE could do the same? I started off loving the book, but the last third I had to push through because the gimkick of twists was not enjoyable anymore. It was really a win-win for me. In my opinion it was the right amount of hot steamy romance and fantasy. The romance had me reading the last half of the book with tears in my eyes (constantly alternating between happy and sad tears). The end seemed to drag a bit (but only a bit). The daughter of a warrior king, Lara was trained as a healer, helping both friend and foe. Wilson delivers a very realistic romance from two people who have entered into a forced marriage. There's definitely something to be said for traditionally published, mass marketed books - the lack of typos, the well-developed characters, and the on-point plots.

At over 600 pages, I felt like I was reading an entire series in one sitting, but without the horrific cliffhangers and long waits. I over looked this book many times because of its cover but finally out of share desperation I purchased it and was pleasantly surprised. The story, the romance, and the writing had my eyes glued to the pages for days. Apart from that, which is in no way singular complaint for this book, I enjoyed it well enough as a perfect easy reading in the holiday season.
