'Love Of The Common Man', for instance, pretends to be glimmering shimmering optimistic power pop, and if you turn the volume really loud and just give in to those extremely tasteful, jangly guitars (the instrumental break is actually wonderful), it works, but it just doesn't work when the song is over. It is very symbolic that the very first track on the album, the excellent 'Open My Eyes', starts with a ten-second snippet of the 'I Can't Explain' riff: the rest of the song has nothing to do with the famous Who hit, but it's like some kind of statement, maybe on the subconscious level.
