The fish monsters (or humanoids I guess) are weird offsprings from the Creature From the Black Lagoon but they have a large protruding brain and long gangly arms.

I guess I am: I keep watching. THE PACKAGING ⭐⭐⭐1/2. Already, I'm enjoying this chapter more than the previous one, there are bound to be creature features aplenty now. Effects master Chris Walas is the highlighted subject here who offers a great amount of insight about the production and its impact. So if you want a cheesy monster movie full of blood and tits, watch Humanoids of the Deep! The shock works, not because it's genuinely scary, but because the effect looks so real, it's actually a bit unnerving. The story is set in a fishing village Noyo as its residents experience a drought of less fish, mysterious deaths, and dead dogs. Maybe it was the few too many glasses of wine clouding my judgement, but I thought the film did a great job of recreating the Creature from the Black Lagoon, and small town monster film vibe popular in the 50s/60s. That being said, during the climax, when the humanoids are attacking a town get together, you can tell pretty quickly that what we're dealing with here are people in suits, and consequently the film loses a little bit more of its credibility, but not its enjoyability. Oh, sure, blame the Mega Corporation for all your problems. But, given how grimy, unpolished and genuinely nasty this film has looked in the past; this print is eons sharper and cleaner than ever before. Clearly, somebody has a lot of explaining to do, and at last, that explanation is forthcoming. What begins as carnage as the humanoids slaughter the town's denizens and, ahem, greet the women, then turns into this free-for-all where the town fights back claw and nail, shooting and beating the creatures to death. And brought in a second, male director in post production to film additional scenes of rape and nudity. Then, another bunch of gill-men put in an appearance at the home of Johnny Eagles.
