Some people may think this is a bad thing, but this is exactly what I wanted. I was wondering do we get see both of them together again in Dance of Thieves? Protect them at all costs. This would make finding her way into Tor's Watch harder, but both Kazi and Jase are abducted to be sold into the human slave market. Both Kazi and Jase are meant, I assume, to be morally dubious characters. Become your own best critic. ✅ THE ROMANCE was soo cute and adorable. This duology is why i love YA fantasy (romance) novels, and Mary E. Pearson is the author who made it happen. The world is well fleshed out and believable. And for the life of me, I can't understand why that is! I'm more of a logical person and need stricter rules laid out and the backstory/magic of this world has always been sooo incredibly vague.

When the time is right, it is revealed to the reader. I also loved the emphasis on friendships (especially female friendships) and family. The mythology and magic of the world actually made sense to me, and the kingdoms themselves all felt fully realized and fleshed out. Personally, it's been a few years since I read the series and so my own memory regarding that series has faded, yet I enjoyed this book. At first I wasn't keeping track of what the words meant and then when I went back I couldn't remember what I said! Instead, both justify their actions to themselves and accept the breaks as inevitable since changing themselves is not an option. I constantly have to struggle with my urge to reread it again and again (I've already failed this battle once, and I can tell I'll be failing it again soon). I did really like the ending. Spoilers for Mary E. Pearson's Dance of Thieves follow. The first is oranges. So many of her most cemented and biased views liquidated and washed away as Kazi got to know Jase. One solution I have found is to write all those scenes/events down on individual post-it notes and then put them up on a wall or whiteboard in the order I think they would happen.

I mean, how could they be so welcoming and warm? And with so many Kingdoms and histories, maybe there will be more spin-offs to come. You have such an amazing skill to bring the books to life. That's all I'll say about the plot.

I hadn't read that series in a longg time so some of the references were a little hard for me to follow. Wonderfully deceptive, creatively written and perfectly layered that had my head twirling as many of the steps / subplots threw me off balance. This is what would be if Inej was Kazi, and she never became one of the crows. The world building was excellent, and we danced our way to a compelling ending that sets up the next book in the series quite nicely, without the feeling that this book was unfinished.
