That I felt it wasn't the same guy writing these books. Likewise, his magic system, though somewhat generic, has an affectation that I found surprisingly enjoyable: The simple naming of spells based on their effect. So I gave it a shot, and had a fun time reading the first in the series, Dawnthief. I loved the concept of The Raven, and I felt genuinely invested in their plight, especially as the book progresses, and some members stay, and some leave. It was a pretty quick paced story and once the action started I ended up reading most of the story in a day. If you're looking for intricate plotting and character development, this isn't the book for you. The main characters were interesting, and I could really feel the bond between the characters in The Raven. I enjoyed how it plays a key role in shaping the core of her worldview instead of simply augmenting it. There also isn't as much sword fighting that readers encountered in Dawnthief.
