As a fan of The Chalk Man, I wasn't disappointed by The Taking of Annie Thorne. C. Tudor's debut novel, The Chalk Man, was one of my favourite books of 2018. Definitely one you'll want to put at the top of your TBR list when it's released next year. The Chalk Man showed that Tudor was a talented writer, got her noticed and showed that she was 'one to watch'. I've never really liked the term 'page-turner' but this definitely falls into that category. Now after so many years away from the place he grew up in Joe returns and gets a job at his old school Arnhill Academy but why is he truly back? The house also started to smell like something had died in it. Then, Joe changed, joined a gang led by the local bad boy Stephen Hurst (Joe, Hurst, Fletcher and Chris aka Doughboy made up the gang along with Marie, Hurst's girlfriend) and his time with Annie diminished. As with The Chalk Man, Tudor attempts to deliver another last-minute reveal but it lacks the same impact as its predecessor and merely resulted in an intrigued eyebrow raise, rather than a jaw drop. I loved how the characters in this book were developed, and how interesting and intriguing they were. I haven't read Stephen King, so I'm not in a position to make any comparisons to his writing, but there are plenty who did after reading The Chalk Man….
