Like its cousin "Margate, " Esoterica "Penzance" takes the medium English formula to new levels of smoothness by tempering the extremes of its ingredients. If I were to pair this with a good Scotch whisky, I'd have to choose a strongly peated Islay like Laphroaig. We set up a drop point in the city. After a few bowls and two weeks of the tin being cracked, the flavors really came through for this wonderful stuff and it is something to savor on. I find this one difficult to smoke without crumbling it up, but when I do the result is a mouthful of dust. This is a masterpiece and is my favourite tobacco. Smoking this tobacco I was under the impression it was well aged as it was quite mellow on the palate and I could not detect any harsh spots or rough edges. The background is Virginias, but I could not differentiate any particular vaieties. I will stick with Gaslight, the Dunhills and my other classics and will not bother with Penzance no more.
