I've found I enjoy it most when I can smoke slowly and take time to appreciate it - smoked quickly or on a windy day the Latakia seems to overwhelm the other flavors, making it very good instead of great tasting. Hard to get a hold you all know this.... It was smoky I repeat smoky. Still a good tasting tobacco most of the time. It is a quality tobacco for sure - there are better. I've only been pipe smoking about ten weeks now, but I've tried thirty or so blends, mostly based on reputations here - how Penzance isn't 4* I don't know, but each to their own and where more so than this arena? Didn't bother me, brought back good memories, and it went away after a couple of days.

Have you ever tried smoking straight Latakia? I think Ill switch over to Frog Morton or 965 for a while until the craving for Penzance comes back. I will miss the two tins I traded for because they don't sell it here in. The Cyprian latakia is smokey, musty, earthy and woody sweet as one would expect, and though it's not the star player, it's rich in taste, and is a major supporting player. I have to compare it to my other favorite Latakia blend, My Mixture 965 by Dunhill. Hints of a sweetness are there but what elevates this from all the other English's I have tried is its totally silky smooth and creamy pure effortless smoke.

The first was a bulk tobacco that makes Penzance seem hard on the tongue in comparison if that is possible. Yesterday I smoked Esoterica Tobacciana Penzance! I tried this over hyped baccy back in early 2020 before covid hit at my local pipe club meeting. I can't imagine that it can get better than it is, but other reviewers assure me it will! I see the Professor, in his review below, helped us with understanding the name Penzance: holy headland. As a side note, I smoked Krumble Kake by Smoker's Haven once at the Chicago show this year, and I think I liked it better (in spite, you should note, of the moisture of that blend).
