If the author's goal was for Fawn to be so unlikable, I would say "Good job! And now Carly is implicated in the financial disaster lurking behind the inn's cheerful veneer. The protagonist is not likeable: she writes rude, meandering responses to one star reviews, dumped her boyfriend over email using her invalid father as an excuse - right after we find out she never visits her father - and generally? She talks about herself a lot and talks about her cats a lot and whines a lot. When a new bookstore opens two blocks away, a modern store with coffee, book signings, and events, Fawn is unable to compete.
