Story: A rural Colombian village is attacked by a horrible sea serpent, aroused by industrial pollution of a nearby lake. Far from it, the creatures thrive as bloodthirtsy killers, threatening to annihilate a small coastal town by slaughtering the men and abducting the women for mating! Posted on 30 October 2008. In post-production, Corman noticed that Peeters had done an outstanding job in filming the "kill" scenes involving male characters, but all of the scenes involving the monsters raping women had been left "shadowy" or had cut away before the attack took place. It's difficult to pinpoint a true villain here. With some imagination, the best way to describe "Humanoids from the Deep" is calling it a nasty and perverted update of the "Creature from the Black Lagoon"-premise. Plot: monster, killer shark, creature feature, shark attack, shark, mad scientist, dangerous animal, save the day, technology gone awry, experiment gone awry, mutant, sea monster... Time: contemporary, 21st century. The creatures, which evolve amazingly fast, kill the men and rape the women. Genetically treated salmon escape the plant and are eaten by coelacanths, who mutate into humanoid monsters with giant craniums and sharp claws. It's an extremely narrow presentation without much boost to it – you may even have to raise the volume on your system to get the most out of it. This remake of the original 1980 Humanoids from the Deep takes a big soggy saltwater dump all over the terrible reputation of the original, a wimpy clone completely worse in every way, its only good parts being footage lifted from its mean and nasty progenitor. From the start, Corman told her he wanted to play up the exploitative side of this movie, making it clear he wanted the monsters to brutally kill the men and terrorize the women. James Horner composed the musical score. The monsters look really good with their outsized craniums [shades of the Metaluna mutant from This Island Earth], their huge mouths and their extended forearms; a considerable amount of work went into making these creatures very different from the typical Gill-Man look and as ugly as possible, and even half-plausible as mutations half-fish and half-human. Plot: piranha, lake, summer camp, dangerous animal, deadly creature, experiment gone awry, mutant, chaos, race against time, eaten alive, animal attack, killer fish... Despite the stew of influences, at a time when cheap slasher films were poised to take over the business the original 1980 version of the film did maintain a character all its own; a contemporary monster movie in the old fashioned mode, with a few whiffs of '70s environmental horror and a couple modern twists thrown in.

The high pitched squealing they do can get a bit much to have to listen too but it's positively music to the ears compared to the screaming that occurs during the festival attack. The story of a group of vicious sea creatures rising up from the waters near a small fishing community to mate with the local women and killing anybody that got in their way was a modest hit but received poor reviews from critics. Story: A massive underwater volcano erupts and puts a group of investigative scientists in danger. The Deep Ones is lovingly cut from the most established of Lovecraftian Tropes. Rob Bottin, who would later go on to create the creature effects in John Carpenter's The Thing and Joe Dante's The Howling, designed the Humanoids as well as the gory aftermath of their killings, and both are quite convincing, if slightly crude. McClure ably plays a solid and good-hearted blue collar protagonist you can root for while Morrow is a convincingly crabby villain whose motives are only wanting his business to pick up. Ingrid reveals that what she is pregnant with is clearly not normal, in a patently icky moment of flailing tentacles, swirling visions, and things going in and out of orifices that really shouldn't be.
