Ead's plotline involves a slow burning sapphic romance and it was absolutely delightful! The world and lore of this book are original and richly imagined, and the love story is vulnerable and beautiful. This wonderful book never goes in the direction you expect, and its characters are full, complex, and morally ambiguous without being labeled "good" or "bad". I really liked how the relationship between Sabran and Ead developed especially in this part of the novel where they are truly seeing each other for the first time and still want each other. They need each other, but not in any co-dependent way. The world-building is impeccable, each kingdom and queendom vividly unique. Featuring a Bisexual Main Character, Lesbian Side Characters, (side/background f/f relationship), Non-Binary/Gender Neutral Side Character – this book has a rich and diverse cast. Esbar and Tunuva have a long-term relationship, and Wulf has two dads. So much patience and skill went into the world-building, which we all know is the foundation of any good fantasy story.
