The board needs to decide whether the attorney and the legal department should be outsourced, in house, or a combination. To clarify, I do not think all Pre-K teachers should have a college degree. We should not rush into any decisions but take a wait and see approach. I would suggest not much. There is nothing innovative about the district. You can view it HERE. Existing schools are not filled because the students and their parents are voting with their feet for alternative education. The board had also changed. Due to Hurricanes Ian and Nicole, students enrolled in the Martin County School District have missed four (4) days of instruction this school year. Our parents knew what it all meant and if you came home with an A or a 95%, you were doing o. k. We didn't see a GPA (grade point average) until we were college students. He said that I was "self-appointed" and sat in the meeting taking down notes on a laptop. The more you use…the more you pay. I think a fair time to do a real evaluation would be this time next year. It is in a very distinct and separate way than for other students.

Florida's scores for third-grade reading proficiency are poor; only 25% of students scored a 4 or 5. Is that not best for all when there is not an overcrowded situation. The school system will need to shake things up if it is to compete with new schools with different education models which appears to be what parents and students want in education. The state cut the rate for the entire state that resulted in Martin County of having a tax increase due to the roll back rate. The worst thing education can do is try to teach these kids methods that are obsolete. After a dozen years, the Interlocal Agreement for using school board fields and gymnasiums is becoming serious. These ideas didn't just pop into their heads.

Yet upon reflection, the reason TCCA works is because it is innovative. DiTerlizzi took a similar track but threw in a few "acceptable progress" checks. If another sister school to TCCA opens, then will the district lose a thousand students to the new charter going by the name Classical Academy North? No one should expect the school board members to be intimately involved in district procedural forms. A citizen's committee, formed by the board and chaired by County Commissioner Ed Ciampi, met several times, and tackled the issue of changing school attendance boundaries for elementary, middle, and high schools.

Discussion could have occurred two weeks ago or two months ago before being included on the agenda for a vote. The Board decided it was best to bring back the presentation later for more discussion. As a mother of two, I care passionately about having excellent schools here in Martin County. This year the amount that will be covered by the tax on the ballot for those two items will be $10 million for teachers and $2 million for other job categories.

At future meetings, there will be continued inane public comment, threats, and incivility. Classes in mechanics, home economics, metal and carpentry were introduced. I am several years older than Anderson, and I remember being a 10-year-old visiting my grandparents who lived in Lake City at the time, and how crazy it seemed to me that there were separate facilities and entrances for black and white.
