Big Pine, California. During heavy runoff in late spring and early summer the waterfall is bursting from the gorge creating thick mist that rises all around it. If you are approaching Ben Lomond from the north, a high clearance vehicle is needed and four-wheel drive is recommended. Flip flops aren't going to cut it on the North Fork Falls Trail. The USGS has it labeled as Ben Lomond on maps. This first section may the steepest part of the whole trail – but it's not too strenuous.
5 miles up from its intersection with Valley Drive (at Rainbow Gardens). It was an image he remembered of a mountain peak from his childhood in Ogden, Utah. The trailhead access begins on County property, and then changes over to National Forest land. That leads to North Fork Road. To get close to the waterfall you'll have to rock hop or wade the stream a time or two, depending on water levels. But it is through the sale of day/season passes that Ogden Nordic is able to maintain the trail system at North Fork in the winter.

There is a waterfall that cascades from Cold Spring at mile 1. It enters a residential area where you turn right at 3100 North.
The trail continues to wind up and down along the creek for another 0. The first part of the trail is well used and easy to follow. It connects the neighborhoods around Fillmore and 20th Streets to the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. She reached the other side of the swimming hole!

2 mile of switchbacks descending 200 feet to the waterfall. Hang a left to head back onto the Mule Shoe Trail. A few small pools here make for a nice cool place to hang out with less than a 5 minute hike. Even if Hodkinson had meant it to be a generic mountain, Ben Lomond is a prominent landmark in the Ogden area and would have been the first mountain to come to his memory.
The street will narrow and veer slightly east. The dirt trail narrows a little bit and continues gradually uphill along the creek. Charlie swims for a stick, as usual! We were fairly confident we could make the climb up to the upper pool, but climbing back down was a whole different story. Plus, the tree roots were actually helpful here, giving us a solid surface to step on. It takes most of a day to hike this trail but it is easier than the route from Cutler Basin. First Waterfall (easy hike). It's best to pay for parking at Glacier Lodge because 1) it's worth every penny not to carry your gear one more mile to the hiker parking area and 2) you can grab some good food there after your hike back down. Go right and look for the obvious road leading up into the mountains at another right turn. There are excellent views at several points along the trail, and so you don't have to make it to the summit to enjoy a hike here. Elevation gain: 150 ft. Time: 1-3 hours, depending how long you spend swimming. From the saddle, the Great Western Trail descends down the east side following a Snowbasin access road and connects to the Wheeler Creek Trail. Otherwise, continue up the doubletrack until it reaches Middle Link.

Note: Google Maps shows the road as Texas Hill Road, but the street signs say it is Emigrant Gap Road — they are the same road. Alternatively, you can drive an extra two miles to the end of the four-wheel drive road to Willard Mountain at 9, 422 feet and hike the trail along the ridge to the east. Few if any signs mark the way so it can be a little confusing for anyone who hasn't been in the area before. You'll get a nice view of Ben Lomond and Willard Peak from here. The downhill sections have several fast and fun turns and switchbacks that can leave a smile on you face for weeks! I have climbed the South Couloir route and thought it was a fun climb.
