Among the first handful built in 1946 this Pre Model 17, aka K-22 Masterpiece, is serial number K 136. But K-22 K59635 shipped in December, 1948, and K-22 K59365 also shipped in December, 1948. This will make settling his estate much easier! This revolver will make a great gun for training a new shooter to use a revolver, target shooting, or just recreational plinking. The original satin blue finish has some minor edge wear to the muzzle and high edges of the frame and cylinder with a little scattered aging. Is there anything I really need to be careful of? I wish I could hang onto this gun, but I moved to Australia many years ago and gun ownership here is MUCH more tightly regulated. Picking up a Model 17 for $100 is a pretty good deal. Upgrade efforts paused for now. The rear sight is a flat top, square notch leaf in a micrometer-click base that is adjustable for windage and elevation. The inside of the right grip panel is matched and stamped "563730". Looking to pick up a 17-2 or 17-3 based on what I have been reading. 22LR with a -4 serial number.

The cylinder lockup has very little side-to-side play. There are a couple tiny rubs that have lightly thinned the finish. Any info/value/reliability/desirability/et. If I chose to import this gun, I would be required to competitively shoot it I believe 4 times per year, just to be allowed to own it! The sideplate has the Smith & Wesson monogram logo and the right side of the frame has the four-line marcas registradas address. The Model 17 didn't appear until 1958. I plan on shooting this gun and not just looking at it. I'd guess 3rd quarter of 1949. In the future, I suggest you start a new thread when you want to ask about a different gun. If the full serial number on the bottom of the grip frame is K812770, likely 1968. From everything I can see it appears to be a model 17, but maybe you guys can shed some light on it?

It probably left the factory late in the year 1948, possibly early 1949. I would also like to pick up a 18-2 or 18-3. Our Assessment: This is a nice Model 17-2 made in 1964. There is a faint turn line on the cylinder that is almost invisible. Finish Originality: Original.

The single-action trigger is light and crisp and the double-action smooth. The crane and sides of the grip frame are marked with inspection marks. It could have shipped the next year (potentially even later, but probably not, since the K-22 was a popular model). I assume square but have not removed the grips yet. Do have correct era grips for it also. It currently has Hogue grips on it and I would like to return it to original. Matching serial numbers on the butt, barrel, cylinder, and right grip panel.
