There are some enjoyable and well-done scenes in this movie, it's wonderfully shot. However I do give them props for giving it a crack and not making a total hash of it. It is aimed at children and for that i believe it was perfectly produced and entirely believable. Place: shanghai, china, japan, tokyo, asia... Country: USA, France, Germany. However, its reviews are only good, not great, and it likely won't have great legs. I was in a large, completely packed theater, and I don't think there was a dry eye in there. Many books have been deemed 'unfilmable' - but anyone who's read Markus Zusak's heartbreaking, thought-provoking The Book Thief would think it especially so.

I still say - read the book, it's great and I believe you will have a lot more fun with it.
