In my opinion, the entire plot collapsed under the weight of this illogical ending. I am, happily, just as intrigued by the Moriarty family as I am by the Watson and Holmes families; the parallels between Holmes and Moriarty (the originals) have often been noted, but this novel basks in them, bringing them to the forefront. Charlotte did come across as slightly crazy at times though, and also seemed to have problems expressing her feelings. Understandably, with what happened to Charlotte prior to the series, and with August's involvement in the case, there were moments when both characters were, perhaps, a tad too headstrong, but both seriously care about each other, and don't want to hurt them. The complex family politics, and each families influence on the global sphere was really interesting. I also really liked that the mystery revolved around art forgery because I thought that was really unique as well and it was super interesting. The side characters really don't come up in this novel as much as expected. I am WAY obsessed with the covers for this series. I think this book was set up to be along the lines of His Last Bow maybe.
Dislikes/Problematic Content. In fact, Miss Burden allows Joe to stay in an old slave cabin on her property. The actual relationships between the characters (including the side characters) are my biggest issues with this series. "Try" being the operative word. "I don't need to be a hero.
